To start off my Milwaukee food journey, I wanted to visit my favorite restaurant: Beans & Barley. I've been going to Beans since I was a kid, so it holds a special place in my heart. Over the years, it has never ceased to make my mouth water and more than satisfy all my foodie tastebuds. My go-to order is a cup of veggie chili, topped with sour cream and onion, and the balsamic tofu sandwich, with a surprise side dish that is always delicious. And for those that are not tofu lovers like me, the menu is extremely diverse and there is something for everyone. Vegetarian, vegan or carnivore, you can't go wrong.
But wait, there's more! What makes Beans & Barley so unique is its combination of cafe and market. While you wait, take a lap around and discover all kinds of goodies. From paper goods and soaps to pie and local beer, it is a great place to find local vendors and quality local food.
