A taco is so much more than a tortilla filled with "stuff." You can pretty much slap anything on a tortilla and call it a taco, but to make a really great taco is not as simple as it sounds, especially with all the unique twists and spins chefs are trying these days.
TT has become an event and must be celebrated regularly. Today may not be Tuesday, but Thursday counts as well, so today is Taco Thursday and Taqueria El Jefe is our contender. Traditional taco meets global flavor at this establishment, taking the essentials of a taco and adding unique ingredients to make something that you can't find anywhere else. The menu and flavors change from time to time, keeping it interesting for the customers. My first experience with their tacos had potatoes and, this time, brussels sprouts. They blend these with salsas, spices and other tasty toppings. Not to be overlooked, their guacamole and chips are killer too. I walk out of there with a very full and happy belly.
Taqueria El Jefe is another new restaurant to the Milwaukee scene, having opened its doors in 2016. They are owned by Phoenix Hospitality Group, a group that owns a hefty chunk of MKE spots. From fancy to casual, they do it all and Taqueria is just another restaurant to add to their list of accomplishments. Their decor speaks for itself, bringing guests bright colors and something new to discover all around. Even the counter grout is blue, really emphasizing their attention to detail. Connected to Taqueria El Jefe are two other Phoenix restaurants that popped up around the same time and help make up The Mayfair Collection, a new retail and dining destination located blocks from Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa.
Now, onto the important things....how to eat a taco in five easy steps:
Step 1. Find a friend that likes tacos (should be all of your friends).
Step 2. Order said tacos.
Step 3. Fold tacos in preparation. Really pack it in there!
Step 4. Stare down competition.
Step 5. Take a bite and look attractive as f*ck. Whoever is the least attractive is the winner!
Tip to all those men out there trying to impress their lady--Don't buy a girl a drink. Buy her a taco. Girls deserve a damn taco.
