National Mother's Day.
Over the weekend, I grabbed some grub at The National Cafe to celebrate my favorite lady. This cafe has a lot of charm and damn good food. They serve breakfast all day alongside sandwiches, soups, and salads. They even serve ramen, which can only be enjoyed in-house. Their wide variety means there's something for everyone.
We went for brunch and both enjoyed items off their all day breakfast menu. I had the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich with spinach (other choices are bacon or ham). Stuffed between two pieces of sourdough bread, the spinach was paired with a fried egg, caramelized onions, some avo, sriracha mayo, olive tapenade, and a little cheddar cheese. With a side of fruit, this sammie was super fresh and hit the spot without feeling too heavy. On the other side of the table, my mom got the Breakfast Burrito with tofu (other choice was egg). Inside the wheat wrap, the tofu was mixed with black beans, salsa, avo, peppers, and some cheddar. Leave the cheese off and this is a great vegan option. Rosemary tots came on the side. Seriously, potatoes are life.
The food at this no frills, but oh so charming cafe was fresh and tasty and the decor was well executed. Exposed brick was paired with bright colors and greenery dispersed throughout. Look around and you'll spot hidden gems that help bring the space together. There is no distinct theme, but rather a mishmash of different details that create a unique and quirky atmosphere. Step out back and enjoy a beautiful day on the patio or stay inside and sit in a window alcove surrounded by sunlight. The National is the perfect place to go work for an afternoon or grab some lunch with friends.
