Born and roasted in Milwaukee, Stone Creek Coffee has locations all around the city, as well as expanded locations in Chicago and Madison. Since being founded in 1993, Stone Creek has focused on the art of roasting craft coffee. However, their newest home on Downer Street has introduced an expanded menu full of sandwiches, waffles and yogurt bowls.
Looking for something to grab and go? There is a plethora of baked goods to choose from, from croissants to muffins to scones. Gluten free? They have options for that too!
First on our plates, the Spicy Avocado Egg Sandwich, which is stacked with an over easy egg, avocado, Sriracha mayo, and relish made up of charred scallion, pickled onion and pickled jalapeño. All this goodness sits between a toasted brioche bun made at the Stone Creek bakery.
To bring a little sweetness into the mix, we tried the Caramel Apple "Liege-Style" Waffles and it made for the perfect fall treat. With a salted caramel drizzle, caramelized apple, and whipped cream, each ingredient was wonderfully balanced. Pair with a coffee or a little hot coco for those non-coffee goers like myself.
And for a snack after the mains, we got a chocolate dipped waffle (yes, more waffle) and a leek and goat cheese quiche. Get a few options to share or keep it all for yourself- no judgement. Either way, don't skip breakfast. I hear it's the most important meal of the day.
The space itself is industrial, with modern and clean lines. Raw, exposed, and imperfect walls contrast the floral wallpaper in the best way and touches of green give this corner coffee shop a fresh touch. Located on a street which was once held in high regard for all things local, Stone Creek gives a little extra life to an area that has potential to be great again.
